I believe my visa was skimmed on Friday night using a ticket kiosk at Metra in Union Station. Sat AM had unauthorized charges on my CC for some Indian data service $590.00. The charges are waived of course... but had to get new cards issued, etc. Beware people!

It's happened to me 3 times in the last five years, and I pay most purchases with cash.

Never happened to me, but I've heard so many stories about it. Now, I always give the card reader a little jug before I put my crd in, just to make sure there isn't anything attached to it.

Yeah, I researched online and they said it was mainly in restaurants this happens. Yesterday, US was the only place I used the Visa. It disturbs me that whatever mechanism they put into the kiosk, they managed to install it in a major transportation hub in Chicago... security issues there for sure! I have notified Metra although they only have that online contact form on their website on the weekends.

You should notify Metra Police. They've probably got separate contact information.

They could have captured the information on another date. This happened to me. I hadn't used my card for a few weeks and then someone on the East Coast started making charges. They store the data they capture and sell it via internet sites from what I've read.

I would think there would be security cameras near the kiosk at Metra and that would make it a less likely target as any criminal with a brain wouldn't install a skimmer in view of a camera (but I realize the cameras may not be pointed directly at the kiosks at that location).

Sorry this happened to you.

"They could have captured the information on another date. " thanks! ... I am trying to think of when we used it before then. But we do a lot of online ordering... so it could have been anytime really. I do think Metra should check this out though, which is why I contacted them. That kiosk I used, did work rather oddly when I used it... it was supposed to give me two tickets, but only spit out one. Which is why I assumed it was that incident.
If that is the case... There were people in line with me, so their data likely got compromised also.
