Wha? There are three EXPRESS bus lines which serve Hyde Park. Do you know how often there is a traffic jam on South Lake Shore Drive?

I take the express bus every day to the Loop. Nightlife? There's jazz at the Quadrangle Club, there's Park 52 or Lee's Blues (on South Chicago). Low dive gin mills? There's Jimmy's or the Cove.

I can't count the restaurants on 53rd and 55th streets. No, the neighborhood is not for everyone but it does have quite a bit to offer.

again, it has to do with the hip/hype buzz that draws people from Naperville/Schaumburg to places like Lincoln Park and Wicker Park. Let's not understate the demand generated in 'hoods like that resulting from see and be seen with the in crowd types.

There are alot of cool projects in the wingsfor Hyde Park. If you follow Chicago Curbed or any development thread like SSP or SSC you would know this.
I'm aware of everything in the works for Hyde Park, so please spare me the lecture. The question wasn't "what is in the planning stages of Hyde Park that would bring more recognition to the neighborhood?" The question was "what would bring more recognition to the neighborhood?" So that's the question that I answered. The fact that a movie theater and other investments are being planned doesn't change the fact that these are the very things that will improve the neighborhood.

Far from it. Did you read the first half of my post? Everyone I know of knows about it and knows it's nice. That makes it anything but "hidden".

exactly, it's just not the type of place the hype machine is drawn to. It's doesn't mean it's not nice or unknown.

I'm on the 'hidden gem' boat. Not many people on the North Side have been down there and realize how nice it is.
That said, part of the reason I like it is because it does seem separated from the city. Imagine if the Lincoln Park / Wrigleyville element moved into the area. It'd totally ruin the unique vibe it has.

I guess you're saying it's "hidden" from a certain crowd, which makes sense, but since that's not my crowd I don't see it that way. If your definition of "hidden" is "not where the chads and trixies hang out" then yes, I too hope it stays hidden.

Isn't that pretty much a definition if someone were to call it 'Chicago's best kept secret.'

It's awesome, always was awesome, but no one outside a few knew about it.

That's only the definition for the people who fall into that small aforementioned group. Hidden from them is not the same thing as hidden in general.

I think the difference is that I'm viewing the Lincoln Park crowd as "the few" and everyone else as "the many", while you're looking at it as the reverse of that. The numbers are on my side.
