And here's your invalid assumption. If it's the news now, and it wasn't in the news before, it must be a new problem? Not necessarily.

It's actually very easy to get 'turned around' while at the rest stop or hi-way oasis and believe you're going in the right direction when you're not. It happens a lot.

Maybe we should stop blaming the police and blame the drunks that actually commit the violation.
Don't forget they're all busy on speeding ticket detail in the northern chicagoland area. (easy cash money grab there)

I can see more cops going from the City to Schaumburg in one day then I used to riding the Dan Ryan for a month.

Until the recent epidemic, I thought of wrong way driving as a rural occurrence, as traffic is light you could drive a long way before seeing oncoming traffic. But near Chicago traffic being a steady stream would alert even a drunk rather quickly. And the incidence of drunk driving has been going down. Other distracted driving? I refuse to believe it has always happened but Now is better reported.

So these accidents have taken place on the Ryan, Ford, Ike and the Reagan.

Its happened all over the highway system, logic tell us its all the reasons mentioned so far.

Than again logic tells me its starting to become a real problem in the Chicago area.

I would be curious if this has increased in other metros across the U.S.
