Anyone been watching this show? I am loving it but I know not every gets Showtime. It's based on a highly dysfunctional Irish family on the South Side.

Trailer:

One thing that confused me a bit is at one or two points references were made to the family living in "projects." But they live in a house, albeit not in the nicest neighborhood (they haven't said which one).

Well, anytime they try to use the downtown Gleicher Center as a UofC undergraduate science lab, you know that the producers are fudging as to locations.

The el keeps passing overhead, which is very difficult to locate an Irish family under on the south side, even for the orange line. So I have pegged the family as living north.

It's a good show, I enjoy it. Though in the first episode when they showed a hockey arena/team it definitely wasn't the Hawks.

They are supposed to live in Back of the Yards, but I'm not sure where they actually shoot it.

" dysfunctional Irish family "
This is a redundant statement!
:-)

Stereotype of the main male actor of the show being a drunk. Check.

We have shameless here, its follows the life of people who live off tax payers money and run drug scams, prostitution and general aspects of life that put you down. Its a really popular show here and is on the 9th series. There was an Irish family which were the main characters but its changed alot now and is more relevant to our current conservative government and trying to get around it.

Canaryville would make more sense. In Back of the Yards they'd probably be the only white middle-class family left.

How is the el overhead in Canaryville? That's not the Orange line.

I didn't say all of the pieces fit together to definitively locate them in Canaryville. I said it made more sense than placing them in Back of the Yards. There's no L "overhead" in BOTY either seeing how 1) it skirts along the very edge of the neighborhood, and 2) it rides on an embankment through that area rather than on a steel structure.
