I think you stated this pretty good - the article did mention they had no plan in place. While I was reading that article it was a preventative throw to the followers of 312 brew a feel good comment so to speak.

Anyone who has done marketing in Chicago knows the area can be very loyal to its brand and they rocked the boat and were simply trying to steer consumers into thinking its temporary

if you recall they also published an article a few weeks ago the brewery has a plan in place to start marketing other beers in different area codes example 202 for new york , they actually had cities they were going to target. In my way of thinking this is all part of the master plan to brew these brews for the different area codes in one facility knowing how this usually turns out the beer will all be the same . bad move the beer should have stayed here :smack

Am I the only one who doesn't think it's a bad thing that Goose Island has grown well beyond its current capacity?

That is exactly what I read out of it.

Then there will be nothing (special about the 312)
other than yeah you have the area code on the label

basically AB stole the idea of the area code which is a masterful marketing plant to begin with.

Talk about identifying with your local market!
Just sucks because know its MASS produced

No differnet than taking a can of pepsi and labeling it 312 or 773 847 708 630
and so on

I do think they outgrew their capacity it just blows it has to be at the expense of brewing the stuff here in a local market
The 312 was just a really crafty clever what ever you want to call it decent good tasting beer
