I'm a 41 y.o. SWF artist/graphic designer originally from NYC. I'm considering moving to Chicago. I'm wondering if someone like me would like it. I'm afraid I would miss the excitement of NYC.

I love art, culture, museums, galleries, indie music.

I like riding my bike in town.

I like architecture and neighborhoods with character.

I want to be able to buy something affordable (but spacious) in a hip neighborhood.

I want to meet other artistic, interesting people.

I like to be near nature/mountains.

I hate huge, pushy crowds.

I don't like having to drive everywhere.

I'd like to be able to meet a nice guy.

I'm not a fan of bitter cold.

What do you think?

I'll second Steve's question, although I'd say that Chicago provides everything that you're looking for except for mountains and avoiding bitter cold weather during the winter months. The art scene in Chicago is top notch with a number of gallery-heavy neighborhoods (i.e. River North and the West Loop), plus Chicago prices are a relative bargain compared to NYC.

lol I just wanted to make sure that you werent posting this on the wrong boards before I responded. I think Chicago sounds like a perfect fit minus the mountains, the big/pushy crowds, and bitter cold. The bitter cold doesnt happen too often, but it WILL happen every winter. Expect a week or two with single digit highs. Let me tell you this: itll wake you up in the morning, thats for sure! Screw the coffee! lol

We don't have any of the media here that you will need to "make it big". You'll actually have to rely on talent, and there's fierce competition for patrons.

As for everything else... I'm so tired of having to describe Chicago.
