Besides, why should all the flipping suburbs get all the casinos? They've been sucking on the teet of the city for years and not contributing their fair share. Glad Rahm finally stuck it to them with the water bills.
Don't believe me, look at all the Metra trains coming in every day, not only from the burbs, but from the collar counties. And think of all the money that flows out of the city every day. It's fine if you want to live somewhere else, but these streets you walk to work and stoplights you cross, water when you flush and drink when at work isn't free.
Ah those people riding Metra are either people going to work or going to tour Chicago’s downtown. Both of which provide REAL jobs to the lower income people. Chicago gets their money via sales taxes, and property taxes from downtown buisness owners. You just can't have suburban sized housing and lawns in a dense city.

Casinos work best when they draw some body else’s money into your economy that is why you would want one downtown to get visitors. Otherwise the Casino is drawing money from locals which said money could be better used in banks or spent elsewhere in the economy.

The only thing north siders in the city hate more than the suburbs is the south side of the city..

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about, as I assure you, I hate Indiana more than those, and DuPage co a close second.

Id be perfectly okay with cannablizing the casinos in Hammond, Elgin, Rosemont, and Joliet.

I'm confused. So Lake County, IN (which literally touches Chicago) and Dupage County are your least favorite suburban areas? How does that make my statement any less true?

If there are in fact McMansions in that tiny part of Hammond, that just serves to emphasize that it's nothing like the area where the casino is located (to get back to the topic of the thread), or any of the rest of Hammond, for that matter.

Ha, that was my reaction, too. Chicago is weird in that it's the only city I'm aware of where some people don't consider suburbs to be suburbs anymore if they're in another state, even if the actual city borders that state. That still doesn't explain his Dupage comment, though.

I give Cook County suburbs a pass because they're practically in the same boat as the city.

I despise those other places because they're clearly benefiting from the presence of the city and their close proximity, yet the infrastructural of the city is crumbling, the schools are crap, poverty and homeless are serious problems, and they think an imaginary line legislates the more undesirable parts of society away.

Hey, that's fine if you want to separate yourself from that. I don't have a problem with people living in Michigan or Iowa. I don't think it's right just because you live past a certain street in Hegewish or a little west of O'hare all these problems become exclusively MY problem to deal with.

If you want to live in the exurbs or whatever, so be it. All I'm saying their should be a commuter head tax for those that reap the benefits of the city yet not carry their share.

Don't want to pay high taxes? Nevada and Florida come to mind.

Keep raising taxes and you'll drive businesses away.
