You guys have no idea what I am doing other than researching communities. So you don't know what metrics I am using, what techniques etc. And as a researcher I hold the right to not disclose what I'm doing. Now granted as I stated before. I used the word unanimously incorrectly, which I stated before, however, even after I clarified you guys persisted to belittle my request. Every other City thread where I asked this question, answered my question and were quite helpful despite my error. It's just the folks on CD Chicago that have the issue. Thank you for the 1 individual who did answer the question.

Worst: The South Side, especially Englewood and Roseland. Some of the stories from those two hoods are really depressing.
Best: The North Center

I'm confused why everyone is being so fussy. Maybe the wording is off but the OP is looking for general perception from people in the Chicago area as to the "best" and "worst" areas. It's pretty obvious what names come up all the time. In vague wording the names you'll hear: Worst: englewood, south side of city, west side of city, ford city, Harvey, Gary.

Best: Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, North Shore, Naperville.

Of course that's all general, and places like "south side" or "north shore" are big swathes that can have a bit of everything, while ford city is a tiny suburban place.

Generally though those are phrases that would be tossed out for best and worst, all stereotypes included.

Worst: South/west side hoods
Best: most of Northside excluding Uptown and Rogers Park.

Worst would probably be the West side around Austin, the best might be the North Shore or Lincoln Park if you could afford it, but probably the Northwest suburbs. I do not expect unanimous agreement on any of these choices.

And I suppose polls, surveys and data gathering were developed as a progression of laziness as well? Do enlighten. Would be easier to just answer his question, as this website is indeed called 'city-data'.

Not when they're done scientifically, or at the very least with a grasp of the definitions of the words they're using.

Well, here's the thing. I can faithfully say that today we are living in the information age, and that internet resources, such as forums, have evolved to become a fairly accurate tool to poll information based on any question someone may challenge an audience with. City Data is such a resource. I feel that forums are the best online tool to gather social based information, or 'observation and insight gathering'. This is why I use City Data. It's not that I'm lazy, but rather, because I know I can gather the most accurate data from people such as yourselves. People who actually live and breath the city. Albeit, the responses may not be 100% accurate, the OP will have a pretty good idea from his data gathering. He has posted in the Houston forum as well, and was met with direct and honest answers...none of which were snide or mocking.

Tongue and cheek quips do little to help this website.
