I heard that Lakeview was a nice safe somewhat diverse but affluent and lively area. Is that true?

depends on your definition of "somewhat diverse"

I live in Lakeview. It's pretty safe, I've never had problems or been worried other than drunk frat guys wandering around screaming.

It's a nice neighborhood, quite nice actually. It's also fairly dense, and has a lot of people on all the streets at almost any time of day.

It's not racially diverse - mostly all white. It has a large gay population and a ton of people who have gone to college and then moved to Chicago. So you'll find a lot of people from around the midwest (lots of Big 10 people), but it's mostly young and white.
