As someone contemplating a move to Chicago, I have questions about the availability of individual health care plans. I've heard the costs can vary greatly from state to state -- as well as selection -- and I was wondering what the situation is like in Illinois.

I would likely be self-employed if I moved to Chicago, and health care is a very serious issue to me, so I'm very interested if anyone has experience with this issue.

I would contact blue cross blue shield of IL (not the only provider but a major one) and ask for a price quote. I had them for a 2 month "gap" plan and it was only $80 a month....but I'm young and healthy. My mom is 60 with some health problems and pays $750 a month!

Thanks for the info! As health care is a major priority for me, it's not solely the monthly premium I'm concerned about as much as being able to obtain top-notch insurance. From my limited research, that seems somewhat possible....
