Duplicate thread (though the other one should have been titled better).

Do we know what is the racial break down of the gain?

Thanks God, right when I thought my hometown was doomed to become a two-horse rustbelt also-ran like the rest of the midwest. Keep them shoulders broad, Chicago.

Good to hear. Certainly it seems like the rental market has been really driving up lately and making places harder / more competitive to find. I'm not sure how much of this is due to foreclosures and people not having the means or credit to buy again so they are forced to rent, or how much of it has to do with more people moving back to the city. I think a healthy increase in the city population would be good.

Sure -- if you believe the Census any more. I'm skeptical of the official 2010 count, and triply skeptical of their interim estimates considering how far apart the estimates and official count were in 2010.

I'm happy that people are moving back to Chicago. Worth noting though, the population of Chicago increased I believe at about a 0.4% clip. Among the 10 largest midwest cities (by metro area - so I'm counting Cincinnati and St. Louis instead of Wichita and Omaha), Chicago was the lowest of the 6 gainers in terms of percentage. I think Cincy, STL, Detroit, and Cleveland all lost population further.

Happy to see the gains, but a long way to go. On the bright side, seems people are for the most part, moving back into cities and away from sprawling into the burbs, in my humble opinion.
