So he wants to spend more money Chicago doesn't have on people that shouldn't be here.

This doesn't appear to be much of a change from previously existing policy.

Given Chicago lost 200,000 people last Census, I'm personally happy to welcome immigrants here.

If immigrants shouldn't be here, then Chicago shouldn't exist. The place wasn't exactly built by Native Americans or New England blue bloods.

Maybe I didn't read the article closely but I didn't notice money for any program.

I think the comment about money was that if services the City provides are also provided to non-U.S. citizens, then there could possibly be additional overhead costs. This would be even more direct when the City has various rebate programs.

I 100% support Rahm on this, but I also mostly understand those who don't.

This isn't about welcoming "immigrants." Far from it. What it is is a policy of looking the other way when undocumented, illegal immigrants are encountered ... unless they're wanted for or suspected of committing a serious crime. This is actually anti-immigrant. A blow to the majority of immigrants who are here legally and who have followed the law. Yes, it's not much if any change in prior policy. A policy I disagree with.
