Chicago's historically poor white neighborhood(s) (neighborhoods, live, yard)

I don't intend this to be a racist inquiry, but I wonder what historically - white Chicago neighborhoods were considered the poorest. I recently watched an old movie on TCM, Call Northside 777, which implied that Back-of-the-Yards was like that.

In the late 1800's early 1900's MOST of the city was poor and white!

Yep, unless Italians, Greeks, Jews and other eastern europeans aren't considered white.

Not all are white. There are many middle eastern/north african jews, and many related to Arabs (although some on each side will tell you that's not true). You could make the same thing about Greeks too because some are Turkish back not long ago.

Huh? What are greeks if not white? Chicago has never had a sizable non-white jewish population that I'm aware of. There are some ethiopian jews today here, but not in the past.

There were Greeks who lived in Asia Minor until the "population exchange" (ethnic cleansing) of the early 20th century. Though they lived in Turkey, they were still ethnically Greek.

I was just making a general statement about that. Some that you think are 'white' are not. About Greeks, I didn't say all, or even a lot. I was making a statement about some people in parts of Eastern Greece are descended from Turks, especially on islands such as Lesbos which was under Ottoman control until the early 20th century (for over 500 years), or say Samos which was under ottoman control for many hundreds of years as well. Actually a number of Greek islands are like this which are off the coast of Turkey, including Rhodes.

I know what you mean, but to nitpick here, most whites are not caucasian. Caucasians are actually those of who are from/descended from the Caucascus region which comprises part of Southern Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. That is why on questionaires it's noted as "White/Caucasian." Technically it's a complete flub, but most people have no idea about this. Just educating on this

I know Greek and Turkish history. What race do you think turks are?
