I'm looking for a 2bed 2bath with in-unit laundry for around $1800 in Lincoln Park, Lakeview, or Uptown and the surrounding areas around these neighborhoods, relatively close to the Red, Brown or Purple line *headache*

Any ideas where to start?

Walk around the neighborhoods maybe? domu? padmapper? craigslist? rent.com? If not, then throw out the "in-unit" laundry thing. I guarantee you will have a lot easier time finding places that have laundry facilities on site, but not in-unit laundry for that price in those areas.

If you want in-unit laundry, try and look for duplexes/triplexes or something for rent or newer small condo buildings.

Is not having 2 bathrooms a dealbreaker? I've found that to be the thing that adds the most cost simply because you're almost exclusively looking at newer condo buildings if you need two bathrooms.

Are you in town? Sometimes just wandering around the neighborhoods and looking for "For Rent" signs is your best bet. Then again, probably not if you need both baths. I've recently seen vintage 2/1s going for $1800 in the Southport Corridor.

I understand completely; I need a change myself, and I've been thinking about Chicago, and other points, as well, but the economy is still struggling, so it will take time, but there's no harm in pushing the envelope a little..

You'll get back to CHI eventually, and you may have to make some compromises just to get back. But once you're back, then the sky's the limit..

KC was never the destination, just a necessary career stop for the SO, and it's been three years so I figure that should be about long enough!!!

I like that thought

I'm starting to think the same thing and have my eye on Chicago, but Columbus, St. Louis, Detroit metro, or NYC metro (NJ suburbs) might work for me too. Basically any large city with a healthy suburban area.
