Hi everyone, We are working couples, no kids and relocating from Charlotte, NC to Chicago in the labor day weekend. We are looking for a 2 Bed 2 bath apartment in a safe/clean neighborhood , within 30 minutes train ride from downtown. I would be working in downtown and my wife is working in Boston and will be flying to chicago every weekend till she finds a job in Chicago. Here are our requirements:

1) 2 bed 2 bath apartments for <$1600 pm.
2) 30 minutes commute to downtown chicago by train
3) Nice area with Indian grocery stores nearby.

Please recommend some good apartment communities and areas that fit our requirement above. Thanks!!

It would be helpful if you were more specific about where downtown your office is as the recommendations will vary based on that. Downtown is a rather large area.

The largest area of Indian stores and restaurants is in the west side of Rogers Park which is the northernmost neighborhood in Chicago and it would definitely be longer than a 30 minute commute to the Loop. It's not the most upscale neighborhood either. I'm not sure that you'll be able to find a 2BR 2 BA apartment for your budget. The 2nd bath pretty much limits you to a fairly new building. Much of Chicago's housing stock dates back to the turn of the 20th century or slightly after.

If you can give up your 2nd bathroom you'll be fine, but you're very unlikely to get within 30 minutes of downtown with 2 baths on only $1600.

There are numerous 2/2 apartments <30min from Downtown for $1600 or less

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I have heard that there are many shady areas to the south of the city. I would preferably stay in the west part of Chicago. The 2 Bath is good to have but not a strict requirement. Can you guys recommend a nice, safe and clean burb on the west side of the city for a 2 bed apartment <$1600. Thanks and Appreciate your help.
