Ha, that was my reaction, too. It's been a long time since I've heard anyone refer to a rave in present or future tense, in Chicago or anywhere else.

The House Parties (Music, not actual house parties) I knew about aren't going on anymore. Used to go to a great party every Monday night.

Fair enough. Apparently the reason I no longer hear about them is because I'm old, not because they don't happen anymore. To me they are (were) definitely a 90's thing.

I don't hear of many candy kid raves in the city. Those were usually found out in Wisconsin, or Rockford or something.

Now, there are unauthorized afterhours to be found around Chicago, but you'll only find out about those through networking with those you see out and about at the clubs. They're usually one-offs every few months that you hear about the night of.

I remember going to raves back during the 90's, but the 'rave scene' died off sometime around 2000-2001. I think it coincided around the same time that Daley shut down a lot of clubs. I also knew that there was a big scene in other plasces, as rparz mentioned, and in places like Indianapolis etc. There are only a handlful of clubs that are surviving today from the 90's...Smartbar, Neo, Funky Buddha Lounge etc. are still around but old places like Shelter, Elixir, are gone. I saw that Ohm Lounge was talking about re-opening as Red Dog, in the same space that it occupied back in the 90's.

But like 8loody mentioned, yes, raves are making a comeback amongst really younger kids...as are all things '90's'. It seems like these things cycle every 20 years...in the 90's, the 70's were cool, then in the 2000's the 80's were back,a nd now it seems like the 90's are slowly making a comeback too.
