This. There was a lot of cheap flippers who made it as far down as South Shore towards the end of the boom who were banking on the Olympic bid. I have a handful of acquaintances that took that gamble and lost.

Yep, I drive through it daily. Hence my qualifier "damn near." I was responding to someone who was saying that South Shore is close to downtown.

That is a pretty cool and ambitious development, though by the time it would be fully completed I would be near retirement age. It would be interesting to see happen, it definitely looks like it is banking on the Metra as being its main connector to downtown, along with a short bus ride to the Red Line along the Dan Ryan Expressway. I would definitely like to see the Green Line extended down through South Shore and South Chicago, which from there an express line could be added to make access to downtown happen much quicker. Something worth putting on a 50 year plan for future growth of CTA.

I don't think South Shore is gentrifying, but being a huge neighborhood, there are some parts that are already pretty nice.

Gentifying? Short answer, No. Diversifying? Yes. But if seeing other ethnicities in the area classifies as gentrification to you well there you go it's slowly happening
