I am a medical Assisting who will be moving back to chicago (June '13) with a child who is 10yrs old. What are some neighborhoods on the northside in my price range which is $800-1000 (2br). The distance that i am considering is anything from the Belmont stop(redline) to Howard

What is the pay range for MA's or Medical secretaires in the metro area (hosptials or clinics)?
Is contacting apt locator worth it?

thank you

I wouldn't bother with an apartment finding service. The big ones are horrible anyway. Just try to work with a local independent realtor.

You have can find a two bedroom on that stretch of the red line for the higher-end of your budget I think. Buena Park, Edgewater, Uptown, Rogers Park etc etc.

Since you are far away from moving, I don't think it makes sense to contact an apartment locator first. If you know how to use the internet and sites like padmapper, rent.com, etc then use those first.

As far as your budget goes, you MIGHT be able to find one or two near Ravenswood or something but your range is pretty low for a 2 bedroom. You'll be looking at the upper range of your apartment. You might want to look up in parts of Rogers Park, West Ridge, etc..or a suburb.

If you don't mind the Blue Line, then look along somewhere like Irving Park on the NW side.

I would recommend not limiting your search to just the north side, particularly on that budget. There are certain areas you want to avoid on the south and west sides, but overall the areas within your budget on the north side are not necessarily going to be nicer, safer, or better than many such areas elsewhere in the city.
