You need a soda for it to be a deal? And its Pollo Express, my bad. Actually picked up some last night, Fed two people, and have another 2 big meals today.

Also I will add Damenzos off Taylor and Western to the list. Their Calzone is around 10 bucks and you have yourself 3 meals.

That was tongue in cheek -- read back a few pages and you'll understand

I pass that place nearly every day, but have yet to try it. It always smells really good, but I'm glad I don't live within the cloud of smoke and vaporized chicken grease that surrounds that place for a block-and-a-half in every direction.

Call ahead and place an order Mon-Thurs for their carryout special, and get the charro beans as a side. Certainly something different for Pilsen and rediculously good. I moved to WP and still make the trek every month or so.

I cant even tell you their address or intersection off 18th, I just look for clouds of smoke

Done and done. How long does it take after the call before carryout is ready?

Ehhh Typically about 30min. Everytime I go there they have the grill full with chickens, maybe 50 or so. I would say they need to expand their opperation, but they cant be making much money selling so much food for 13 bucks.

True, but their overhead can't be that high, either. Maybe they'll add another location in another part of the city at some point.

There are some great Vietnamese sandwich shops that have been recently opening in the East Lakeview area where you can get banh mi sandwiches for about $5. Banh Mi and Bun Mi Express (both on Broadway, a couple blocks either side of Belmont) as well as Nhu Lan which is on Belmont just off Broadway.

This past week I finally got around to trying a couple sandwiches at Bun Mi Express. First one was a curry chicken sandwich, then today I tried a Vietnamese meatball sub. All sandwiches are served on a 10-inch fresh baguette, toasted, and come with cucumber, pickled carrots with dikon, cilantro, jalapeno, and mayo. The flavors blend really well together and the sandwiches are spicy and yummy.

I used to love that place. It was gutted by fire fairly recently. Not sure if the chicken grease got out of hand or the owner needed insurance money, but either way it's a damned shame.
