There was a thread on here in the past which mentioned Hermosa is full of hipsters. Is this true/explain?

No. Definitely not. Thats a tough, gritty working class hispanic neighborhood. No hipsters at all.

Uh, do you know where true hipsters actually go? They usually go to gritty, but semi safe, neighborhoods. I would say there are probably some hipsters there, but not a ton. There's many more in say Humboldt Park than in Belmont Cragin/Hermosa.

The truly hip have been branching into the vacated industrial areas and properties south and south west going down Grand. This trend is at bare minimum 15 years old.

Hermosa and Belmont Cragin are getting some more established artists and musicians and so forth who have gotten to a point in their lives where a bungalow serves their work/shelter needs, but in terms of a bigger movement, they are pretty far out. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, I would agree. Naturally, it depends largely on how you define a "hipster," and also how you define the Hermosa neighborhood, but I have seen quite a few people who might be considered hipsters beginning to seep their way west of the tracks from Logan Square into what I think of as Hermosa for at least the past 10 or 12 years. But I would in no way say that it's "full of hipsters" (maybe in another ten years, but not now), as it's still predominantly a gritty, working-class Hispanic area, as Tex?Il? said.

The creative folks who actually are craftspeople. They're the trendsetters, the "hipsters" are followers.

Nothing new about it whatsoever except changes in terminology, branding and marketing.

Craftspeople? You mean like boilermakers, ironworkers, pipefitters, carpenters and such?
