Hi there, I am taking a week off work at the end of November and would like to visit some larger city, Chicago is one of the options. Therefore my question: What's the weather typically like around that time? I know it gets really cold in Chicago in winter but is it already really horrible at the end of November? I like to walk around a lot to see the City by foot and visit museums, parks etc...would end of November still be a good time for that?

I know I can check out climate charts etc but would be nice to hear some 'first-hand experience'

Many thanks

Lars

No it should not be that cold then. Of course cold is relative. If you are from the tropics it could be a little chilly. The temperature will range from the forties to the fifties during the day. Of course here in Chicago you could get something unusual happening with a dusting of snow, or the opposite, temperatures reaching the sixties or above. It will not be bone chillling then, just brisk. In my book if the temperature is in the forties, its all good. Its when it dips down below freezing and/or there are strong winds....

In the end of November, definitely going to need a coat. It's most likely going to be snowing. The temperature is going to be from 30's to 50's. Traveling by foot is possible because most attractions are close to each other.

Chilly to Cold .. and if you guess 'cloudy' 3 days out of 5, you'd be right ... Plus, it will be dark by 5:00 PM ..November is not a 'bright' month here ... As far as snow .. probably none on the ground , but it's possible ..

It is heavy jacket not yet heavy winter coat type weather. It is cold enough to do a hard frost at night. While it may be cold enough to freeze at night but during the day still 30-40 or so, 50 is still likely maybe even 60 rarely bellow 30. Can flurry but snow in November usually does not stick to the ground(it melts). Slight chance of freezing rain but November isn't usually a rainy month.

thanks everyone, it sounds as if I could handle that sort of weather, sounds pretty much like a Seattle-winter Chicago is definitely an option then...

You'll be totally fine walking around as long as you bring enough layers, including gloves and whatnot. I can't tell you how many times I've gone out with friends who have been underdressed, and they really put a damper on the entire experience by complaining how cold it is. The most dangerous temperature range for this seems to be the lower 50s. People don't realize that if you spend a lot of time outside at that temperature, you're going to want a coat, warm pants, and probably gloves. That temperature range just gets people because it's not that cold compared to a typical Chicago winter day.

So as long as you're wearing the right stuff, you'll survive at any temperature.

Sometimes it's 65 degrees out, sometimes there's snow on the ground. Check the weather forecasts a couple days before leaving.
