Shouldn't this guy be trying to fix our broken budget and failing schools? He's already maneuvering to run for national politics, using our city's mayoral job to resume pack. How deceitful.

Didn't see it, do you have a transcript/video link?

Rahm has been a major national player since the 90's. Showing up on a Sunday show and talking about international issues is not going to be something he would ever use, or need, for a resume. I was more surprised that Rahm showed up the TV show Chicago Fire a couple weeks back.

Just a few days ago you were a major fan. Is the bloom off the rose already?

You do realize he was (and is) deeply embedded in national politics far longer than he's done local politics, right? He likes being mayor, but he also likes contributing to the national discussion due to his extensive experience in it. So I'm a little confused as to why you would even think twice about his appearance. It's as if you know nothing about him.

Why didn't we actually have a intelligent debate about fixing these issues when he was running against Chico triggering a run-off election? It would have been a great time to hash out some plans. But, alas, nada.

Because politicians aren't actually do-ers and problem solvers. It's a popularity contest.

I'm sure that Rahm was commissioned to help beat the Iranian war drums.

Was America really ready for an African American President OBAMA - have we gotten used to him - yet? What about, is America ready for a Jewish President Rahim Emanuel - let's stretch it more, is America ready for a Muslim President Louis Farrakhan? Or a woman president or an openly gay president - are we ready for a NEW AMERICA?

Yes - and no. Ready for Obama, maybe to Rahm and probably no to Farrakhan.

Why?

By nature of the job, you have to have mass appeal. You can't be polarizing and win an election.
