Sure,

but from my experience of living hear (LA) close to a year now, I have found that Chicago seems to stay up/out later.

Seeing Des Moines brought up in this, I have to comment.

The "drunkest" people I've ever seen out at night are in Des Moines IA and possibly Green Bay WI. I've actually seen entire dancefloors get into Royal Rumble-type brawls until security gets a handle on things, which can be a while. I've seen several knockouts just walking around downtown Des Moines. Usually show this to people when they visit and they are surprised. It's like college game day might as well be Mardi Gras every weekend.

Chicago is probably the "drunkest" big city. It seems like the party destinations, Miami, Vegas, people go there to get crazy but don't act it (at least in public). Maybe it has to do with such a concern on "looking cool" in those places, or just the heightened security to begin with (especially in Vegas) but I've always wondered.

Midwest cities are simply more belligerent than other places.

I guess my point is that I do not like the crazy" I am out to get drunk crowd". I do not care about people drinking or not. If that bother me, I would not go out. It just feels like the idea of fun is going out, drinking or getting drunk with no other balance. Chicago nightlife is not dead is just stand around drink part and doing nothing else does not appeal to me, and this is not exclusively a Chicago thing. I just prefer a mature lounge with dancing or a big nightclub atmosphere if possible with down to earth people. Also, do fine where last calls are 1:30 am 2. I like to go out between 9 p.m to the latest 1am and be done. I do not want to see the sunrise.

Exactly, Chicago overall has a more "let get trashed feel than a lot of big cities which does not appeal me. Like the poster said, I did not even feel that vibe in Vegas. I have been too a couple of places out there and L.A and a great time. Some people were drinking, but what I love that people were smiling and having energy dancing and just letting loose. I have not found that in Chicago yet. Or if you are at a lounge/club scene it is people standing out just to look good.

It seems like if I walk around a busy nightlife area, you can count on 95% of these places people just standing around drinking beers with their small crowd of friends. You not even really socializing. It just people standing talking with their friends and not mingling. I feel like I can invite my friends over for something like that.

The only appeal I see in that versus at home is the energy of just being out and around many people, but I if go out I need to be dancing with music with a really fun and energetic crowd. I can do the going to the bar thing and drinking at starter, even though I do not really drink, but that can not be a night for me.

No, I just to do not like that energy or it to be only thing going on at a place. Every place, club, lounge, bar or whatever people are drinking, some are standing around, some are sitting at a table, some are dancing.
But you know what I am talking about. At least I think, you know passing a typical bar lets say Wicker Park or Wrigleyville. It is people in groups standing with beers, trying to look good in their little groups and drinking and nothing else is going on at the bar.

I think a lot of it has to do with all midwesterners that move to Chicago from nearby states. There's also too much "Big 10" culture there. Basically, bars that are too Iowa/Wisconsin/Ohio State/Illinois, etc. It's a nice city but I don't miss it.

You just described Lakeview and Lincoln Park, not Chicago.

Newsflash! Lincoln Park and Lakeview are in Chicago so this does describe a part of Chicago and as a young person you do not want to live in a lot of other neighborhoods other than "the big five". I live in one of these other neighborhoods. It's ok, but it is not what a typical young Chicago is looking for.

I am ready to get a attacked! I know it is coming.

Can't wait to the day I say that. But I will miss things about Chicago.
