This may be a State of Illinois thing not Chicago. Maybe some policy on letting criminals out on parole that the State has? To me it is shocking that it happened there. To me its just as bad if somebody gets stabbed on the south side or anywhere. It does not make a difference, its all bad. You just do not expect that it will happen in some of the other neighborhoods. It makes it difficult to see where you can generallly be fairly safe from being a victim of crime.

Exactly. The "Oh it happens in the South/West side all the time" mentality to pass off the crime is annoying. No matter where it happens, it's sad and wrong.

Anywhere people are around, there is always the possiblity of crime and/or violence. The closest thing to complete safety is locking yourself in your home with an arsenal of firearms. Even then, you won't be completely safe. Welcome to the real world. Glad you could join us.

I don't think people are denying that random acts of violence by mentally deranged people can happen anywhere, I think the question is, why was that random act of violence committed by someone with 60 arrests and 9 felonies! Why was that person not rotting in jail someplace?

Agreed. It's all bad. And if the only way the media and/or policymakers will pay attention to bad things is if some of them happen to wealthy white people downtown, then I'm glad some of them do.

Actually, that's not even remotely the safest thing. Way more people are killed by their own (or their family members') firearms than successfully defend themselves using said firearms.

To have guns in their house and think it makes them safer? Yep. You said it, though, not me.

Why does it matter? The south is never going to get the attention that the north gets because of social/economic status. It is what it is.

No, to kill yourself with your own weapon. And, sir, even if you aren't any safer with the gun it still gives you a better chance to defend yourself against an armed invader. I could spend all night destroying that silly comment. lol
