DH and I have the same bday and was thinking of heading out with friends to California Clipper. Anyone been there? Recommended? If so, what is a good place to eat nearby?

If CC is not a good plan, where is a good place or places for food and cocktails with live music? Am not looking for anyplace in: Lakeview, Lincoln Park or Wicker Park. Am open to 'burbs though.

Thanks.

It's a good place - they have bands some nights, and it can get crowded, but definitely a solid place. For food I really like Rootstock, just a couple doors South, and there a plenty of other great places to eat East of the Clipper.

Feed just to the South is also a great place. There's also a number of good places along Western - Lockdown, Bite, and Belly Shack are all solid. Further East on Chicago Ave. there's Roots Pizza and A Tavola.

Thanks, we're considering a couple of these places. One last question, have you been to Maiz Anojitos Y Bebidas down the street from CC? Is it any good?

I haven't been to Maiz since they moved from Division/Damen over to the California location. I really liked the place then, but that was a long time ago. I'm not sure what it's like now.
