South Shore has a pretty high crime rate overall. It's a shame because the neighborhood has so much potential.

If you're new to the city and will be working in South Shore, I'd recommend living in Hyde Park first. You might be comfortable with a move to South Shore, but I really don't recommend it for someone who's never been there. It's a really complicated neighborhood where the situation can change quickly in a matter of blocks. In general, north of 71st and east of Stony Island is the safest area (sometimes called the Jackson Park Highlands). I've only been there a few times, so I can't really offer specific advice on whether it's safe or not. The neighborhood may be great for your needs, or it may be a nightmare. It's tough for us to say without knowing more about your criteria.

Nah you'll be fine I've been living on 73rd street for ten years. The people here honestly don't care and will continue what there doing after they see you. We're not the target in this part of town. But I would suggest 67 th street it's the nice part of south shore. Everywhere else is average just don't go west of Jeffrey street that's where all the *******s live. And don't let the crime rate scare you Chicago's already doing they're part by having cops and undercover Joe's right around every corner
