Well I'll be starting my new job in deerfield next month. im currently living in the jefferson park area, 26 y/o. there are so many variables i dont know what the best angle would be and hope for some advice.

this summer my sister will be getting married and i think she and future husband will take the condo since we bought it together. they plan on living there 2-5 years. i dont want to be the 3rd wheel or anything so where would everyone recommend looking for a new place? im thinking another condo or townhouse maybe, dont want to get too far from the city but i love the commute-ability of the jefferson park area (highway, CTA, metra, buses) and dont want to kill myself with a 45 minute commute or anything like that. just based on a map, should i be looking at skokie, niles, lincolnwood, morton grove, NW side? i want to stay close to the city because my GF lives there, theres lots to do, and in the future i might find work there instead. whats a good long term compromise for me right now?

Or Skokie. Both are close to the city, easy commutes to Deerfield.

Skokie would tend to be less expensive.

A lot of people knock places like Skokie and Morton Grove for being too suburban, but even as a dedicated city dweller, I like those towns just north of the city. They're ethnically diverse and have some of the most amazing restaurant options in the country. I suppose someone who's more ambivalent about East Asian, Indian, and Eastern European food would find less to love up there. But for me, being close to an H Mart and Patel Brothers would be amazing.

Anyway, I think Evanston and Skokie are probably your best options, along with any area around a Metra station. Even if you can't stumble outside your house and be on the same block as seventeen bars, it's not like you'd be far from the action. And if you're living in Jefferson Park now, that shouldn't be anything new to you.
