Another reason for me to stay here is that all four of my kids live here and intend to stay here. And I intend to stay where I have a support system, as one gets older such support is increasingly important. One sees old people who move away from family doing fine in their 60s but becoming lonely and pathetic in the late 70s and 80s. Often then moving back to family is too difficult a task.

In February when winter is at it's most depressing I'll go to Florida for a month, that'll give me a shot in the arm. Then back in March, March is when my spirits pick up.
Not saying this goes for everyone. But yes most people upon getting older have a hard time with the weather. Maybe you don't but many people do. I mean because what's the logic of so many people retiring in Florida and Arizona? Because of the weather. If cold didn't bother most older people there wouldn't be so many retirees in those states.

Chicago is looking like our next location after we get tired of NYC, which Chicago is the city I want to raise a child in, but when we retire we will probably migrate back to Portland and enjoy our retired years there.

Maine is nice. Does the presence of the ocean moderate the weather?

Yeah, it keeps coastal snowfalls to 5 to 7 feet per year versus 8 to 10 feet inland.

Sorry, wrong Portland, I always forget there is one in Maine, I was referring to Oregon, but yes Maine is pretty, I have friends there and I have been meaning to visit the other Portland while I am living on the east coast.

Depends on how much money I have. There's a few places I'd like to retire that are completely out of the United States all together.

Either:

* British Virgin Islands - http://www.blacktomato.com/wp-conten...-Gorda-BVI.jpg

* Turkish Riviera (i.e. Oludeniz, Marmaris, etc) - http://images.travelpod.com/tripwow/...02aw-18629.jpg

* Istanbul - http://www.turkeytourguide.com/wp-co..._firmalari.jpg

Pretty sure though I can live in Istanbul and the Turkish Riviera now. Some of the houses in the Riviera are pretty cheap and awesome! BVI on the other hand is really expensive and really hard to even buy a house there.

The Atlantic Ocean moderates the weather slightly; it warms the air by a few degrees in winter, and cools it slightly in summer. Boston is also subject to winter Nor'easters coming down from the Maritime provinces and Maine, and are capable of dumping up to 2 feet of snow by the time they're finished. (rare that it's THAT much , but 12-18 inches is common)...

Inland New England is colder, esp the mountains in VT, NH and ME, and in general all across the north Country. Likewise, interior New England is a little warmer in summer..

I want to die on the job.

I can't imagine just sitting around as an old fart. Ugh.

I want to be illegally burried at the end of that runway they are gonna make at O'hare.

If he interacts with people offline the same way he does online, that illegal burial he's seeking could happen sooner than he expects.
