I think Chicago as a city is one of the best. I think its cool that I've had the opportunity to live here. When its time to go it time to go.
Yes, so for each person it is different. I wouldn't MIND living here for life (if it stays well), but if you've seen other parts of the world, they're more attractive sometimes. Could I live here forever at the current state? Yes. Would I pick to retire in parts of the Caribbean or Europe over this? Absolutely

It's been identified as national past-time. Actually the definition is fairly malleable. Severe infractions mostly amount to people using it in place of a simple coincidence, but people who don't acknowledge that that there is a broad interpretation for situational irony are not only misinformed, but most obviously have far too much time on their hands and ostensibly haven't been on a date in several years.

Where I work, a huge marketing agency, most of the people here come from small midwest cities and towns. Their careers cannot flourish in those small cities and towns like they can here. Chicago is an amazing place to start a career and maintain one, which is why so many Big Ten Alumni move here immediately after graduating.
Yeah, I suppose I knew that. It's interesting to me to think there are that many people in Chicago who would rather be in small towns if their careers could flourish there. In my field the jobs in small towns are easier to get, because there's less competition for them, and they often pay just as much or even more (in an attempt to lure people there), along with a lower cost of living. So if I wanted to be out of the city I'd do it now rather than waiting for retirement. I realize that many corporate-type jobs are non-existent in small towns, though.

True. It's just in a large city you have more options people are big job hoppers now. I mean look at how many advertising agencies there are in Chicago when compared to let's say Green Bay Wisconsin. So if you got a job at a small firm in Green Bay, but want to change companies, your chances of finding something on par or better in a similar company are slim to none. I mean here in Chicago you can jump from Leo Burnett, to Digitas, to Razorfish to Omnicon, and those are just a few. There are dozens, if not hundreds. Or if you work in architecture. Not many architecture firms in Green Bay, so if you get fired or want to move companies you might have to move to a new city! In Chicago you have more than enough opitions.

Yeah, but those options are only options of you can get them, which is much harder when you're one of 200 applicants for an opening than when you're one of 20. The demand for employees is greater, but so is the supply. Also, moving from city-to-city for jobs is pretty common these days, in small or big places.

It's like ray-ee-aiiinn on your wedding day.
It's a free ride when you've already paid.
It's the good advice that you just didn't take.
Who would have thought?? It figures.
