According to this website's neighborhood data, zip-code 60640 is largely called Andersonville neighborhood. My Aunt Mary G. Lynn likely lived most of her life in this neighborhood. She apparently passed away near there on March 16th, 2007. I'm seeking any advice or information useful in tracking down where she lived, and hopefully any living persons that were friends or providing assistance to Mary G. Lynn. She had mental health issues and was committed to Dunning as a teen. The best information is that during the 1940's and 50's, new medications aided many Dunning residents to function more normally, allowing out-patient care. Thank you

60640 also includes a large chunk of Uptown/Edgewater neighborhoods which have numerous mental health facilities.

It sounds like you don't know much about her. Do you know where she died? Do you know what years she lived in 60640? Whether she was married? Where she went to school and whether she had any advanced schooling or what her means of support was? Do you know her exact birthday or at least year?

The State Hospital's name has not been "Dunning" since 1912, although it persisted as a casual name.

It is officially Chicago-Read Mental Health Center, and it's still open. You could perhaps see if she was still attached there as an outpatient.

Ashland runs next to Clark at that point. Clark & Foster at 5200 N. is generally considered the start of Andersonville---and that's where the Swedish stores are. So the address is only 6 block to the south. Not a big deal IMO, because there is no "official" Andersonville boundary anyway, and the link was for 1940---who knows exactly how the neighborhoods were then.

Thanks for all of the responses. My aunt grew up at 5318 N. Ashland Avenue. She likely attended church and high school at St. Gregory the Great. It's where my father James Francis Lynn graduated and where he and my mother Marie were married. Her parents were James Lynn and Agnes Lynn. Her mother's maiden name is McHugh. I think it unlikely she was married. Her death cert is unavailable to me because Cook County doesn't see me as next of kin. I'm simply a nephew, not a sibling or parent. What I've found on FamilySearch.org shows her SS#, her original given name the date of death and the zipcode where she was living. The 1940 census is the last one in which she appears, to my knowledge. So, you can see that how she lived her life is a mystery to me. I've considered trying to locate people that are responsible for organizing block parties to see if she was known in this way. Thanks in advance for any further advice.

Tom Lynn

BTW, Cook County makes the death cert public record 20 years after the death. I'm guessing it's unlikely that anybody that knew my aunt will still be around by then to talk to me about her, so that's why I'm taking the grass roots approach. Too bad I have to do it remotely from Seattle, WA.

Happy New Year!!

The 1950 Census will not be released until 2022.

If not already tried:

You can call/write to the Catholic churches in that zip code (or other religion if applicable).

You can check newspapers for obituaries.

You can call/write funeral homes and cemeteries.
