Don't you have that backwards? It's generally people who have grown up in privileged white neighborhoods who stereotype all non-white neighborhoods as crime-ridden and think that people who stand in front of liquor stores are waiting there to kill random unsuspecting customers. Most minority majority areas have this problem. Especially the African American ones.

No one is saying you will get killed or that they won't be cool with you.

We're saying they're up to no good and anything at any moment something could spark off.

I grew up with guys like that. I also said that they revel in ignorance. And it's not a place I want to be.

But clutching my peals in horror? No.

I grew up with guys like these too. What's your point? You should know then that people standing around is no cause for alarm. They're not actually going to do anything to you. You know this, right? The OP started some ridiculous thread crying about how frightened he felt because there were "sketchy looking" people around, as if he was in any immediate danger. He wasn't. At all.
