You get questions a lot about the very worst areas in Chicago and most people will say Englewood. If you haven't been there, don't say it.

I'm live on the North side and when I wasn't working, I would bike everywhere on the North and West sides. Laramie and Lake Street ( and around that area ) is a pretty sketchy, run down area It was Sunday morning, very dead and quiet. 10 min after I left. I had cops pull me over coming back from there( pulled me over on Central and Diversey) telling me they were following me from North Ave. They checked me out, my bags, etc, certain I was a criminal. Warning me to come clean what's in my gym bag. After they realized I wasn't a problem, they told me I should not be in that area, that it's a too much drugs and homicide rate was high there. Funny how these cops wasted time following me and wasted time talking to me for 10 min, probably missed out on a real crime happening...

Chicago Ave & Pulaski. New Years Eve, 11pm at night. The wife and I were taking the bus down to Navy Pier and they stopped the bus and told everyone to get out for the next bus. I thought you gotta be kidding me..........dropped everyone off HERE????? We had no idea this was gonna happen. Yeah, us standing out there for 10 min was bad. Bus didn't even come, we called for a ride. I didn't trust all these sketchy people around us/outside Burger King, etc

And last I guess would be in Uptown, Wilson/Broadway, just for the subway. Also around 11Pm. What a dump that area was. I'm pretty sure there was a murder the other day in that area, so it wasn't a good feeling.

So, what about you guys? The worst area YOU stepped into Chicago?

I used to go in to a market on Halstead (?) street on the near North side. In order to get close to the head of the line you had to arrive before midnight and sleep in your truck. I always had my Garcia double barreled 12 gauge beside me and although I never had to fire it it saved my bacon several times.

"I was in this poor neighborhood, and there were people around who looked... menacing!" Yeah, okay. Great thread, pal.

Hmmm, I'd say part of Englewood and South Shore...and the middle of Humboldt Park and part of Austin. Nothing happened though, so whatever.
