This might sound silly but: how badly do you want it? I love living in Chicago. So much so that I commute every day to/from St. Charles. After making this commute daily, Bloomingdale seems like a piece of cake to me. Bet you can get to/from Bloomingdale each day an hour each way. Of course, depends where in the City you live as well.

On most weekdays, traffic after 3pm, sometimes after 2 pm becomes congested from Manheim Rd as far as Austin Rd, few blocks stretch at junction 290-I94 and few miles of trucks at junction 290-294. Traffic tends to be horrible on both sides, eastbound or westbound. The only time when traffic is smooth is off rush hours, 9am-2pm, but on some sections trafic is big at noon especially by 294, then it starts really bad after 3 pm till 7pm. When during normal light traffic hours it will take you 40-60 min from downtown to bloomingdale or vice-versa, it will stretch to 2 hours each way during traffic.

Save OP trouble and advice her to stay close.

Retail workers usually drive at off hours.
