Good point on those Chinatown lots, they are freakin' cheap!

So far, I've discovered a lot of prudent information here. I only hope that others feel the same. Thank you.

And it is generally cheaper to park in the lots than on the street if you will be there for a while.

Thanks to all for the information.
I will be staying in a hotel on West 26th Street. Is this place safe enough to venture out in the night, on foot?
Also, is the area crowded in the night?

"West 26th Street" is several miles long and goes through neighborhoods of extremely varying quality. Where on 26th Street will you be staying?

Because of road configuration that is a very funky spot. It is not "unsafe" so much as inhospitable. I would not recommend "exploring" the area. Lots of actual "gritty / sooty / dirty" sidewalks due to lack of residences or businesses...

I have had a media pass for 14 years. Auto Show and Air Show are my two favorite events in Chicago. A lot of you are afraid of the South Side, but you can park free on King Drive and take the #3 bus north to get dropped off right in front of the show. Somebody also mentioned Chinatown and that's a good idea too.

There's not much happening in the immediate area but you're about a 7 or 8 minute walk from Chinatown. Walk about 2 blocks west to Wentworth, turn north up Wentworth, and about 2 blocks later you'll be in the thick of Chinatown.
