How are these areas in winter?

How is the dating scene as well?

Lots of single females in their 20s?

The winter slows things down as you would expect, but the bars are still open and young people are flocking to them albeit in much more clothing.

Tons of single, educated ladies in Chitown. The dating scene is great. Honestly, if you are in your 20's and have some spendable income, Chicago is amazing. Good luck to you

Busy and bustling.
You want dive bars, yet you want them to be busy and bustling? The two don't exactly go together, but maybe you have a different definition of a dive bar than most.

I was about to say the same. A "bustling" metro area normally isn't packed with dive bars! But as some said already, dive bars are everywhere in Chicago, Uptown has many, but even downtown, heck even in the Loop. But no, you probably won't find an area lined up with dive bars, not in Chicago, not in New York, not in Miami.

Sure they do.

Most ive been to in Philly and NYC (im from NY) are usually packed. Even Upstate.

Ive been to Chicago and would say theyre pretty busy. Just dont know about the whole scene.

Its not as if dive bars are like reading books on tape while eating marshmallows in front of a fire here.

Westside? Southside?

Just mainly Northside and the Loop (somewhat) it seems?
Wicker Park, Bucktown, and West Loop were mentioned. Those are all West Side.

Logan Square and Ukrainian Village (also both on the West Side) have a growing amount of nightlife, as well.

There's stuff to be found on the South Side, but it's scattered about rather than clustered in large bar districts.

You can find dive bars and sports bars just about anywhere in the city. It's a matter of whether you're okay with having just a few bars or you want a ton of bars within walking distance. If you want a ton of bars you probably want Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Near North (which includes River North and Gold Coast), or possibly Wicker Park / Bucktown. If you just want a few bars there are many more options. Some of the best bars in Chicago are neighborhood bars that aren't part of a large bar scene, IMO.

Personally i wouldn't have wanted to live in Wrigleyville (which is part of Lake View) in my late 20's. The bar scene there is too reminiscent of the worst element of college bar scenes. I didn't really like those types of bars much beyond age 21 or 22.

you said you wanted a concentrated area of bars that was "busy and bustling".

of course there are single dive bars that can be packed with people, but dive bars themselves aren't usually concentrated in the most "busy and bustling" areas.
