They only test about every 3 to 4 years. And lots of people want the job.

I have friends who have been on the list for police and fire since about 2000, took a test in maybe 2008-ish and are just starting to hear about some movement now.

Good luck with your search.

From what I have been told, the TV show actually is fairly accurate in its fire and accident scenes but not in the "station drama" scenes.

I still get a chuckle that almost every call from the house on 12th and Blue Island has them going up to calls in Wicker Park/Bucktown or somewhere else on the north side if not in the loop.
(they bought what is Lottie's bar for 75K? I'd be all over that!)

Only once have I seen them close to the firehouse, and that was right off Taylor street when they had to get the mailman out of the sinkhole.

Oh, and the airplane in the middle of the street way down by Hyde Park.

Yeah. That seems to be the ONLY fire station in Chicago! I saw one where they were like way down south dealing with a trailer full of dead Mexicans and yet you see the Sears Tower from in front of the station! How many Chicago Fire Dept stations are there between their station and Hegewisch?

They spend a lot of time at the station my cousin is at. My cousin spent 45 minutes one day talking to Taylor Kinney telling him how much his wife loves the guy who plays Kelly. "Which one is that?" "You're talking to him."

The benefit to them unrealistically going from fire to fire all over the city is we get to see , for a change , some real and decent Chicago shots on a TV show purportedly set here .. Some of the others recently set in "Chicago" have been laughable .. I know Toronto when I see it
For the OP ..Good Luck ..takes years ...
