Hi Everyone,

Apologies if this topic has already been covered. Where are some great places to go within 3-6 hours driving from Chicago? Trying to plan a quick anniversary trip for this weekend, and looking for something romantic, fun, but not freezing. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I would go south at this time of year if you're wanting to go that far and not be freezing. St. Louis? Indy? Cincy? Louisville? Perhaps not traditional hotbeds of romance, but big enough places that romantic rooms and restaurants can be found easily enough.

You could always head to Detroit. One reason I left Chicago for Phx was because there was no where to go for car trips. There was the Wisconsin Dells, but 4 hrs to look at some fudge was hardly worth it, besides the WI folk hate Chicagoans due to their stupid Packers, yeah the same fans that hung Bart Starr's dog. Now I have San Diego, LA and Las Vegas within 6 hrs, not to mention Rocky Point Mexico if you are so inclined.

Maybe the Kansas City Plaza? Good restaurants, fountains, museums, theatre... It's about 6-7 hours away, but the weather looks to be in the 60's this weekend. If you could hold out for just a week or 2 more, the flowers will begin to bloom on the streets...beautiful.

The Kansas City spring comes sooner, but we pay for it in the summer.

SW Michigan is nice. So is Traverse City area, it's probably cold up there though.

Galena was a good suggestion as well.

Milwaukee by the Lake can be nice, but colder. I liked the idea of heading south, you could also catch an overnight train to Memphis.

Haha. Have you ever been there? (I'm not sure if that was sarcasm or not.) I stopped there once on my way out west once because I was bored with always crossing the Mississippi at St. Louis and thought it would be cool to take a different route and see Mark Twain's hometown. Never again. Holy crap that place was awful. Totally run down with nothing going on. It's St. Louis every time for me now.
