Enelgwood: Highest crime rate, Chicago's first organic farm..

Englewood home to organic farm | abc7chicago.com

However, only recently did Whole Foods Market open up in Orland Park, IL. This makes it the only Whole Paycheck location in the southland other than the one in the South Loop.

They've signed a lease for a forthcoming development in Hyde Park. However, how are Orland Park, South Loop, or Hyde Park "The Hood" by any stretch of the imagination?

Organic farms in the neighborhood are actually a sign of LOW rents, i.e., the land isn't worth building on and therefore the only profitable use is farming. For small scale farms growing produce for urban markets, intensive organic agriculture is much more profitable than trying anything with chemicals -- and besides, organic food can be found everywhere, not just at Whole Foods.

How is Englewood NOT the hood by any stretch the imagination? Whole Foods Market hasn't come to the hood but whole foods have.

I originally didn't even say anything about Whole Foods Market locations in the way I originally wrote my post.. And actually, even if Orland isn't the hood, the opening up of Whole Foods Market in Orland was a really big deal for south suburbanites who thought it would never happen.. The store still has to draw in people from nearby areas to make lots of profits. And Whole Foods in Orland is actually drawing in people from AT LEAST a 20 mile radius around it.

Whole foods are being grown in the hood and even consumed in the hood. Who would have thought?

I work part-time at Whole Foods and having shopping at both the "cheaper" alternative, the prices are very comparable. Some things are pretty outrageous but you usually they aren't essentials. Fresh cut delis, stuff on the pre pack wall, pizzas, deodorant etc all comparable from what I've seen or even cheaper. Plus the 20% discount helps me

Whole Foods doesn't accept LINK. Maybe they will in the future though. CostCo didn't used to accept LINK but they do now.

Depends on what you buy there. If you purchase some of their store brand items, the prices really aren't all that bad.

You have an unusual definition of "hood."
