A bull**** name. As though a business is being run for the benefit of Mankind rather than it's owners; a pose of virtue to impress the saps. Let's use plain speaking.

Keep in mind though that the bike sharing thing was started by charities as a way to decrease pollution and congestion in towns. None of the hundreds of organizations around the world that do bike sharing make enough profit to operate on their own, thus they're funded mostly by government and charities. Think of it more like the public transport system. Yes, you're paying money to ride, but that money pays for the system, it doesn't make fat cat CEOs rich.

It's sharing as in shared use of a product. Do you consider timeshares and rideshares to be bull**** names because they're not free?

"Why's it called Ovaltine? It's not oval. They should call it Roundteen!"

My point is why not simply call it bike renting, which is what it is a afterall? What's wrong with that? Just because businessmen and politicians want to call renting "sharing" and gambling "gaming" doesn't mean you have to buy into it. It's a little thing perhaps but all this bull**** adds up.
