Just asking since I'll be in town in 2-3 weeks and I kinda like Rogers Parks in a "I could definitely live here" way. When I was last here about 18 months ago, I remember Sheridan Road had some pretty nice looking condos; Clark St was a bit creepy at night; Howard station had a few "characters" here and there but nothing I'm not used to.

I'm guessing it's still a "middle of the road" neighborhood still (i/e not great but not horrible) ?

It's very diverse. I think the racial demographics are almost split into thirds (33% white, 33% black, 33% hispanic). A rare sight in Chicago!

I have a cousin who attends Loyola, and I've never felt unsafe walking around Rogers Park. Lots of petty crime from what my cousin describes, but it seems like a cool area. Just make sure your belongings are secure (though that's common sense anywhere).

I don't think Rogers Park will be all that different from 18 months ago.

Well, 18 months ago it was October, and now it's April.

Rogers Park is truly diverse racially, ethnically and socio-economically. It is pretty safe if you stay east of the Red Line south of Howard. But like every where in any major city, awareness is part of city life.
There are some great condos and apartments near the lake. The lake is a huge plus in the R.P. I have lived here 20 years and love it.

I'm fascinated by RP if only because I've never been there and have never known anyone who lived there. I believe it's the only North Side neighborhood about which I can say either of those things. I should visit sometime, but it's just....so damned far up there.

You don't know anyone who went to (or attends) Loyola?

Love how hipster free Rogers Park is.

I've known several Loyola alums and a couple of grad students. None of them lived in RP, at least at the time I knew them. I was old enough when I moved to this area that I've never socialized much with current undergrads here.

Not much has changed since I lived there. RP doesn't really have a "destination" corridor like some of the other neighborhoods, except for the theatre district on Morse/Glenwood. Still, that doesn't garner enough attention and foot traffic that I think it deserves.

As for the residents, it would vary block by block but it's certainly a mix of students, yuppies, oldies, families, ghetto, lgbt, etc. Not too many hipsters (yet)!
