After some excellent neighborhood advice from folks yesterday I'm planning my trip to find a rental with a July 1 move-in and given that the most recent July 1 move-in related thread is from 2010 (and the market has changed quite a bit), I'm hoping you all can help.

Given that it's the busy season, how much time should I plan for the visit (2 days, 3 days, more)? Is late May (20th or later) too late?

If it helps, yes, I plan to use a realtor and I'm looking in Avondale, Logan Square, and Irving Park.

Thank you!

I dont have the Chicago real estate experience that many posters on here have, but I can speak as someone who is moving to Chicago and recently found a rental. From my experience, the rental market moves extremely fast. Many of the places that my realtor lined up for me were only on the market for two or three days. I ended up renting a place in River North that had only been on the market two days and already had three offers on it. With that in mind, two or three days to look at places should be plenty.

As for when a good time to look is, I would say that late May should be fine. I was looking to find a place for June 1st and ended up signing on for May 15th so that I would not lose the apartment. I was in Chicago apartment searching mid April. Just one mans experience, but I hope it helps!
