I lived in Phoenix for almost 3 years and decided this is not where I want to live much longer. I can't take the heat. Its November and still hitting close to 90. Finding friends, dating, all come difficult for me in this city. In fact its not like a city at all and I want urban lifestyle.

I originally had my heart set on San Diego but figured that I may not be able to afford it and find a job.

I'm in the IT Helpdesk field and was wondering if its possible to make at least 40K a year in Chicago city. Right now I'm making 35K paying 745 month 1 bed / 350 a month car payment. I know Chicago it will be more expensive to own a car. I am also from the mid west so I am aware for the cold(which is why I moved to Phoenix in the first place!) Any thoughts?

You could find similar rent in a number of nice neighborhoods within the city. Owning a car will more expensive, although you may find once you get up here, that its an expense you no longer need - depending on whether you can find a job within the city itself. A monthly CTA pass is currently 75 bucks a month, although that may soon rise. Regardless, it will still be more affordable than a $350 plus insurance car payment.

Regarding your job prospects, you may want to get in touch with a recruiter and have him/her see what they can dig up for you in that field. Craigslist is also another good source.

I hope you'll be happy. I feel you on the heat thing. Now the Southeast (where I'm from) is not bad, it's like 65-70 degrees for high temps there now, but I could never imagine living in someplace like Los Angeles or Phoenix where it's 90 degrees in November, I would go crazy. Seriously. Being from the South, I looked forward to the wintertime because it was a relief from the oppressive summer heat.
