Hey everyone. I am coming to Chicago for one night. I am planning a longer trip for the near future but I am just shooting through this night to meet with some friends to go to an event.

I have never been to Chicago but have been researching it heavily online recently and am contemplating moving there for the lifestyle. I have been looking to possibly move to the Wicker Park, Bucktown, & Lincoln Park areas.
The event I am atttending that night is located at Vision Nightclub which is at 640 N Dearborn St. So those are the areas I want to hit... Efficiently.

I will arrive early on a Saturday and depart that Sunday evening. So I have all day Sat. and part of the day Sun. So I want to visit the Wicker Park, Bucktown, & Lincoln Park areas during the day and go to Vision that night. The hotel prices are crazy (to me anyways) near Lincoln Park it seems. Decent prices seem to be at least 10 miles. I will be getting around via public transportation.

So here is where I hope to have you guys help and offer me some insight...

What area should I get a hotel in to be convenient (and fairly cheap, around $150 a night) to my three points of interest? Is there a "sweet spot" for me here? Would just near the airport be best?

Should we use public transportation "the el" to and from the club and hotel that night or a cab? What time does "the el" close? Is that area downtown safe and crowded on Saturday night? Any thoughts for me?

Is there a particular area in the Wicker Park, Bucktown, & Lincoln Park areas that I should definately visit and check out in my short time? Any suggestions for fun and drinks?

Any info you guys can throw at me... I would appreciate... Thanks for taking the time to read this and reply!!

Hey Play. You'll have a great time here.

My girlfriend worked at Vision during her college days. It's in a giant old building that many say is haunted. (The GF isn't into ghosts, but said she saw some stuff.... spooky!)

As for hotels, there aren't many in those neigborhoods. Most of the hotels are downtown/Mag Mile, which is closer to Vision. There are a few hotels here and there in the hoods. If you want to stay downtown and need to save some bucks, maybe a hostel? Otherwise, hit up hotels.com. I just randomly looked up a Sat night stay in Chicago in early December and found hotels in the city for under 150. I found one of the ones in Lincoln Park for 144, all taxes and fees included. It's doable. You COULD stay out by the airport for less.... but come on. It'd be a waste of precious time in the city.

The Red Line, which runs into Lincoln Park, runs all night. The Blue Line (to Bucktown/Wicker Park) does too, but there may be some kind of crazy construction delay. You never know. Depending on where you stay, a cab might be best. You could get from Vision to anywhere downtown for under 10 bucks, and up to Lincoln Park for about that. Maybe 15. Less if you split it with someone.

Enjoy, man.

There's a hostel right in the the heart of the loop (HI - Chicago Hostel :: Hostel to Reserve in the United States), I actually saw it in a New York Times video about cheap Chicago vacations. Its like $30 bucks a day, which is incredible, especially for a downtown location.

Wow that is very cheap, but in the end it is still a hostel, and you will most likely be sharing that room. Another alternative might be the hole in the wall Tokyo Hotel on Ohio Street. I've never stayed there personally, but it may be worth looking into if you're on a shoestring budget and want your own room downtown (I think rates are $50 per night).

Thanks for the info... I'm not really on that bad of a budget. I'm figuring $150. Just hoping for a safe section that will be convenient to the points of interests I stated. However, I doubt I do much but crash in the room...
