Andersonville has had a spillover gay population, and a hip reputation, since at least the early 1990s. A guy I know who was a serious John Cusack in High Fidelity type of hipster, and his first condo was in Andersonville in the 1990s, then he moved to Wicker Park just as it started its upswing.
