Chicago just doen't have a "strip club" culture. I am a Chicago native and I had never seen a strip club before I moved to Atlanta. The OP is right in that women patronize the strip clubs as much as men do. I am female and have gone to strip clubs a couple of times myself. Though I enjoyed it, it's not something I feel the need to do on a regular basis.

You just aren't going to find anything like that in Chicago, so if having access to great strip clubs is a must for you, you should stay in or go back to Atlanta.

I find the dynamics rather bizarre. Chicago isn't conservative like Atlanta (you couldn't even buy alcohol on a Sunday in Atlanta until about a year or so ago), yet in Atlanta everyone is all in your face about church and Jesus (including the gay men), yet there are strip clubs and gay bars everywhere with a huge gay scene. I live in Buckhead where I am surrounded by all of these huge, beautiful churches, then right up the street there are strip clubs, adult novelty stores, peep show booths and massage parlors everywhere lol. I was in Blake's one night (an Atlanta gay bar) for a drag show with my gay friends. As the emcee would talk between performers, he would talk about performing oral sex, then talk about Jesus and how much of a Christian he is lol. I'm not Christian and I'm a dyed-in-the-wool liberal. But I have always been fascinated how Atlantans blend religious conservatism and sexual decadence together so seamlessly as to create a reknown strip club industry.

My point is that Atlanta is a different place. Strip clubs actually make up a part of Atlanta's identity and is a part of the cultural fabric here. You just aren't going to find what you are looking for in Chicago or any part of the U.S. Go over to the Atlanta forum and you will find Atlantans telling people Atlanta is a great place to relocate to because of the strip clubs. Atlantans assume everyone is into strips clubs as an important city amenity lol. So I can see why an Atlantan can go to an even bigger city and be shocked as to why there's no huge strip club scene. Strip clubs are very important to Atlantans in the same way that great museums are important to Chicagoans or New Yorkers, but this isn't necessarily so for people in other cities when it comes to strip clubs.

I don't find that to be bizarre at all. It's a yin and yang thing. The more sexually repressed a culture is, the more likely it is to need things like strip clubs.

Good point. I guess I am more bowled over by the religious hypocrisy because these same people judge me for not being Christian lol. I am also fascinated by the gay involvement in Church, particularly among gay black men here when southern Christians are so anti-gay

Baptist churches can be really wacky. As long as you "accept Jesus as lord and savior" you're good.

Jokes we used to tell growing up as non-fundamentalists (Catholics) in the Bible Belt where most people were Southern Baptist:

Q: Why do you always take two Baptists with you when you go fishing?
A: If you just take one he'll drink all your beer.

Q: Why don't Baptists have sex standing up?
A: It might lead to dancing.

Chicago is still the USA's #5 convention city, so the lack of strip clubs hasn't hurt out of town business.

Precisely. Chicago has a lot more to offer than Atlanta that it doesn't need strip clubs to stand out or draw tourists and conventioneers. Atlanta has no major body of water nearby, has a dead downtown with nowhere to shop, very little to see and homeless and panhandlers EVERYWHERE!

Chicago gets by just fine without a big strip club scene.

I've driven down 159th in Harvey countless times and I know Chicago Heights like the back of my hand.. Chicago Road has REALLY cleaned up. You really won't find a hooker on Chicago Road anymore. You'd be better off heading east on Lincoln Highway and then asking a group of guys standing on a street corner if any of them know where to order a hooker.. Asking the first young woman you see walking down Chicago Road if she's a hooker might get just be asking her to call the cops on you..

And 159th in Harvey? Really? I don't know what you're talking about..

I've worked at multiple trucks in Chicagoland. The industry isn't what it once was. For one thing, a lot of truck stops like to work closeley with local police for reasons that have nothing to do with prostitution..

The city has no strip club and no casino. Still, it manages to toddle along.

Isn't that wonderful?
