It was way worse in Wrigleyville. Those photos from Damen & Milwaukee look tame in comparison.

Wicker Park is still a LONG way from having that kind of vibe and likely never will. Despite the yuppie factor, it's still the city's hipster crossroads.

However, a few places have opened up recently along Divsion that would fit in nicely in Wrigleyville or River North (e.g. Fat Pour, 50/50). It seems like these places attract a lot of people from outside of the neighborhood. I'm not sure why you would go to Wicker Park to hang out at place like that though. Why not just go to Wrigleyville or River North? On a positive note, two bars that were magnets for d-bags recently closed in Wicker Park (Cans & Empire Liqours).

Yupster, perhaps. I see far more actual hispters in Logan Square and Pilsen these days. Wicker is all yuppie all the time.

There's at least one big ol' generic sports bar right at the actual six corners in WP, but yes, Division has become quite yuppie even more recently.

Also, LOL at this post. What, you think the only Hawks fans are ones in the city? There's 9.5 million in the metro area and there's also Hawks fans in neighboring states..

It was a lot of people - I work on Madison at the River, and the crowd just kept coming. But two million does seem like a stretch - that'd be over 20% of the people in the Metro area. Even if some people drove in from outside of the metro, that seems like a stretch. I *might* believe a million, but 2 million really seems unlikely.

I think the melee for the Rodney King thing back a few years ago, tops it as far as crowd rowdiness/madness.

that's probably why he said 3 million was 1/3 of the local population...

Fair point. It does appear in the aftermath that the Wicker Park version was a little more civil than the Lakeview version. I still refuse to call thousands of people in the streets celebrating a hockey win "hipsters."
