Thank you!

I live in Pilsen in a beautiful rehabbed 2 bedroom for $700 (with central a/c, laundry on-site, free street parking and a space comes with my apartment). I always get discouraged because Pilsen is often overlooked in these threads but I am personally VERY happy here.

Pilsen is a great area, though I don't think it fits with everyone, but I try and suggest it when I can But you know, you don't want the wrong people ending up in your hood ;-)

You should be encouraged, if your neighborhood becomes fashionable there goes your $700 rent. If you have something good going keep it under your hat.

Wow. I thought I had a great deal in Pilsen, but you've got me beat.

Me too. Tom is right, though. The uninformed people are ultimately the only thing between us and Wicker Park-type rent. I felt very fortunate to be able to re-sign my lease at the same rate with all of the changes on my block and the next one over in the past year. I often wonder how many of the online Pilsen-bashers are actually Pilsen residents wanting to slow gentrification. If I was a better liar, I'd join them.

^^ Haha, good point. Lucky for me, my landlord lives on site & it's not a management company so I'm a bit more confident it won't be as quickly as it would with a company. Did that make sense

Really though, I love it.

Well, I submitted an application for an apartment on Dearborn which is also in the Gold Coast, so I'll see what happens. Move in day would be July 1st and it's only $985, which would allow me to pay for parking as well within my budget. I liked it a lot since it had a rooftop deck and views of the lake from the building. It was also a 12th floor apartment and had a wonderful view.

An apartment finding company took me to see a decent sized studio in Lakeview the same day, but it was on the third floor and had a view of another building, which I honestly didn't like at all. The apartment didn't even get any sun, no wonder it was available. Pretty close to the lake though, but in a very "suburban" area.

I have a few friends that live in South Loop and I do like that my job would be pretty close, as well as my friends.

I really don't understand why you're advising against Gold Coast, Marothisu, when you live there and don't plan on moving.

It was more of the budget thing more than a "Gold Coast...meh" thing (though I still contend that Lakeview/Lincoln Park has more stuff for sure). $985/month really surprises me. Is it a studio? Which building is this? A Planned Property one? Gold Coast is alright, just depends on your personality, but it's becoming younger all the time and I do enjoy some areas of it a lot.

Sure, but unless you're his best friend and he's really generous, don't think for a second he wouldn't take an extra $500/mo. if somebody wanted to pay it.

x2 on that. Last thing you need is people leaving Wicker Park and Logan and offering $1000+ a month for similar apartments around you.
