Just out of curiosity, would anyone here who voted for Rahm be unlikely to do so again if he appoints Deb Mell as alderperson of the 33rd ward? Keep in mind Dick Mell is saying he would stay on as Democratic Committeman, so Dick will essentially be able to replace his daughter's seat in Springfield as well.

As long as the Democrats rule IL., it doesn't matter who holds any office, you know it will be corrupt and this State will continue to flounder. By Democrats, I include Jim Thompson, Mark Kirk, Bill Brady and just about any of the so called Republican politicians that have been in office the last 30 years. IL. needs a complete make-over !

Count me out. I made a mistake voting for him the first time. But, I just could not bring myself to vote for Chico from Canaryville / Bridgeport. "Back in the day", I would have been killed (by neighborhood residents) or arrested by the "cops" in that neighborhood for just walking down the street. Currently, not much has changed. I am not taking any chances in that 9th Police District area. I never go in that area, for any reason.

It all depends on who runs against him. Last time around, Rahm seemed to be the lesser of the evils running for mayor. I highly doubt there will be any decent candidates challenging him in 2015. Somehow they always make sure that the mayor is essentially unchallenged by any blue ribbon candidate.

I am more offended by what the Lipinskis did in 2004. The father ran for re-election to Congress in the Democratic primary and then stepped down and had his son appointed in his place for the general election, which he won against some hapless Republican. The son was a college professor in Tennessee at the time. Mell's daughter is at least an elected Illinois state representative.

Do you really think there is anyone that vote for the woman on her merits? She got the seat becuase dad, a powerfully connected member of Chicago's Regular Democrat Orgnization, that slates all the candidates, made sure there were no serious opponents. Further, becuase of his deep pockets (earned mostly through legitmately successful manufacturing business...) he could toss around family money for any campaign challenge. Given the generous benefits that elected officials are constitutionally granted in Illinios he essentially bought the kid an annuity at a crazy discount. She probably will receive retirement benefits worth millions and a salary that she'll get for just showing up. Sweet deal...

Any talk of "pension reform" also should include prohibitions on "handing down" any elected postion and REAL limits on how campaigns are funded -- as it know stands anyone with half a brain and some connections can "buy" lifetime income secuirity and place an enormous burden on taxpayers!

As if there isn't a laundry list of reasons why people wouldn't vote for Rahm anyway....

How it looks downstate:

But For Dick Mell - Illinois Review

I agree 100%, which means the Cubs have a shot next year if hell doesn't freeze over first.
