The only things I think that LA is better than Chicago is less sports oriented and more outdoorsy and less of a drinking culture even though there still is a lot of drinking. I would think Chicago is more enlightened. LA in general has a pretty uneducated population.

Eh, not really. They're about equal at least in terms of educational attainment, possibly Chicago slightly worse. There's a lot of both educated and uneducated people in both cities. The term "enlightened" is broader than that though. I know a guy here for example, who was about 6 credits short of finishing college but one of the most intelligent and "enlightened" people I've ever met. He just ran out of money to finish.
