Are there any safe but not particularly diverse neighborhoods in Chicago where 20 and 30 something professionals live and take public transportation into downtown? I currently live in Queens, NY but am looking for a change.

My vote goes to Lincoln Park.

Lol, funny. Yes, Lincoln Park is a big one and perhaps at least 50% of Lakeview (but not all of it). Lincoln Park as #1 though in my opinion.

Gold Coast and Old Town would probably be in your wheelhouse too. Lots of high-end bars and restaurants, L stops at Clark/Division and Sedgwick, quick access to the Loop and the Lake.

The homogenization of basically all of the Northside means that any neighborhood near the Blue, Red or Brown lines have significant pockets of affluent residential devlopment.

Wait a minute - I thought you believed the Blue Line was overrun by "hipsters"?

Old Town yes, and parts of Gold Coast maybe, but Gold Coast in some parts is more mixed than people think. You'd have to stay north of Division St if you don't want anything too integrated in Gold Coast.

East Garfield Park. Not particularly diverse, 2 el lines, plenty of 20 and 30 somethings, and safe if you take certain precautions.
